“Classrooms are not sexy, but they work.”

So obviously untrue. I wish this author understood the history. It can be read here. That system he sees as working? It does work exactly as it was designed: and it was designed to fail 80% of its students, and serve the five percent targeted for “leadership” — or university back in 1920.

Now we only obviously fail 15%, but we still truly fail the majority.

Thankfully I work where we are committed to doing something different. Right now, as I write this, our School Board is reporting on their investigations of alternatives — global choices. Our designers are doing away with single-teacher, single-subject classrooms. Our principals are focusing on everything that an be improved — and made more kid-learning centric.

Read the history. Think again.
