I don't see that as a logical extreme. Here are a few inventions that changed reading and writing but didn't eliminate it: the telegraph. The printing press. The radio. The television. Film. Audio recording. (Rod Serling dictated everything he wrote into a tape recorder) and on and on. And humanity somehow (more or less) has kept on.
