I guess I'm a failure because I never got those "raw mechanics of reading" down, and I guess we condemn all those kids I've worked with... from history professors to police officers... to lifetime failure as well.
I'm a trained AT Specialist and know the definitions, and I sure know the "medical model" of US disability thought that treats every brain difference as a disease. But "technology is technology," and we use what we need.
By the way, stop by any medical school and see the students using Text-to-Speech at 3x to get through their reading. Or, should a medical career be limited to those with speed-reading skills.
Sorry to sound angry, but I've fought all my life to be treated as something other than "less than," and I don't want medical definitions to hurt other children.
