I think you are confusing "science research" and "social science research" as so many do. There is no such thing as unbiased research in education. Every research question, every question within that question, every bit of analysis, and every bit of presentation of data reveals as much about the research bias as it does about whatever is being studied - meta research is no different.
If you want to ask about TJHS you must begin by determining what the purpose of public education is, what the purpose of "elite" public education is, before ever getting to the biases included in every "objective" student learning measurement system.
The entire argument over TJHS is political. One side favors social reproduction and wealth preservation, the other sees a different purpose. The two sides will always choose their research based in what they want. But then, every education question being debated turns on the same question.
