And yes, it is true that in the US schools for the very wealthy have uniforms, as do “compliance schools” for the very poor. And yes, many American students do struggle in universities (I have seen that while teaching in US universities), but they struggle because their secondary schools have been regimented, and they can not shift to the freedom of higher education.

To quote an HR director at a large US corporation, “new employees don’t fail because they lack knowledge, they simply don’t know how to work here, how to handle adult freedoms.”
