My K-12 experience took place in a city with federal court ordered busing for desegregation, and I am here to tell you that Joe Biden was dead wrong about race and education 48 years ago, and he is dead wrong today.
In the early 1960s the City of New Rochelle (NY) had 12 elementary schools in its 10 square miles — one was all African-American, one was integrated, and 10 were essentially all white. My 1,200 student K-6 school had three Black students, despite serving an area where a large group of African-Americans lived just six blocks away from my home. Despite existing in a city that — until the migrations of WWII — had the highest percentage population of African-Americans of any city in the state.
